Avery's Restaurant

I had a teacher once who would tell us that if we didn't study we'd end up "flippin' burgers at Avery's." Really, it didn't seem like such a bad way to end up. Impossible now, though, since they're going to tear it down and put up something shiny in its place.

Pretty to look at. Nice to hold. But if you break it...It's sold!

That was the sign on the nic nacs and souvenirs shelves by the front door.

After Sunday dinner Jimmy would always go and stand in front of them wish he could hold them. And then one day Jimmy dropped a glass figurine and somebody had to pay for it.

Jimmy learned his lesson and never stood there again. (Not without keeping his hands in his pockets.)

I remember when, years ago, my uncle (Ken Weber) delivered fresh trout from his farm to serve up to the hungry folks of Mancelona!! We will miss the Avery's Special (ham and cheese) as much as we miss the Avery's!! This place holds fond special memories for the Lucas's and I believe this was Bruce first place of employment.....oh and the stories he could tell, but I won't. Love your comment Jim, you learn life lessons in the strangest of places..long time no see Jim!
